Ancient courtyard Phoenicians and Romans, Arabs and Caltalans... Many different civilisations have left their imprints on the island. A journey through 3.000 years of history.


Cathedral
Gothic church built in the 14th century over an Arab mosque; it is dedicated to Our Lady. It underwent several changes until the middle of the 18th century. It houses a notable altarpiece in honour of St. Gregory, and an interesting 14th century gilded silver monstrance.

Town Hall
The Town Hall occupies part of an old Dominican Convent built between the 16th and 17th centuries and whose Santo Domingo Church still survives. Outstanding features are the cupolas that adorn the structure of this Baroque church, and its Cloister.

Dalt Vila
The old town walls, begun in the 16th century as a defence against attacks by the Turks, took forty years to build. They enclose an important historical legacy, declared a World heritage Site. The main entrance gateway is the Portal de Ses Taules.

Es Savinar Tower
Old defence tower overlooking the islets of Es Vedrà and Es Venadrell and half way between Es Cubells and Cala d'Hort, it rises to 200 metros above sea level. It is well preserved and

Ses Portes Tower
Strategically erected on Ses Portes Point, the tower was built in the 16th century as a defence against invasions by the Corsairs and the Algerians.

Sa Sal Rosa Tower
Built at the end of Playa d'en Bossa with the objective of protecting Ibiza harbour, the tower provides magnificent views over the neighbouring island of Formentera.

Balàfia
Located in the area of Sant Joan, Balàfia is a rural settlement with dwellings and defence towers dating from the time of Moorish rule and where the atmosphere is still reminiscent of the Ibiza of that age.

Puig d'en Missa
Old defence post dating from the 16th century, located in Santa Eulària, it has walls with an attached watchtower and is circular in shape. Located at the top of a hill it has sweeping views over the surrounding area.

Archaeological Museum (Old University)
The seat of Tanit find the old self-governing body, the Universidad, which was established in the 12th century but abolished in the 18th on the arrival of Spanish troops. It has housed the City Archaeological Museum since 1907.

Statue of Isidoro Macabich
Statue raised in honour of the Ibizan historian of the same name. It has become a popular symbol and the background to many visitors' photographs.

Rural Settlement Ses Paises de Cala d'Hort
Constructed at the height of Punic power, (V BC), these are the ruins of an old Punic rural settlement comprising several buildings used as dwellings and for agricultural purposes, in addition to two necropolises - one Punic and one Byzantine.

Es Cuieram Cave
Sanctuary-cave established in IV-III BC, dedicated to the goddess Tanit. At 200 m. above sea level, it dominates Sant Vicenç Bay. In this area around Sant Vicenç, the inland scenery shows great biological diversity, with the dense woods and the typical species of wetter climates.

Ses Fontanelles Cave
The remains of ancient rock paintings can be seen in a natural shelter above Cap Nunó, in the Municipality of Sant Antoni.

Cova Santa
Cave of age-old stalactites of great beauty, which has given its name to the surrounding area, located on the Ibiza-Sant Josep Road.

Puig des Molins Nekropolis
One of the most extensive and best preserved Phoenician-Punic necropolises in the world, with remarkable Punic hypogean or underground tombs. Covering 50,000 square metres, it provides a better understanding of the Phoenician civilisation. Located on one side of a promontory of the same name, it was declared a Historical-Artistic Site in 1931.

Sa Caleta Phoenician Settlement
Recently discovered settlement, Tradition located between Es Codolar Beach and Puig des Jondal. Dating from VIII to VI BC, it is the only example of a Phoenician village in the Mediterranean area.

Pou Des Rafal
Located along the Sant Josep to Sant Antoni Road, you can reach this well by taking a turning to the left. Wells have a special symbolism in the culture of this Island, as they were meeting places for the young who worked in the fields, and were popular as a place of courtship.

Ses Salines
Area founded by the Phoenicians and declared a Nature Reserve, it has a wide variety of scenery of high ecological importance, and is a nesting area for many species of migratory birds.
